Diane
Young is a Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique, a method of study that
helps to eliminate physical tension and over-efforting in the body's use. The effects of
study are many-fold; less back and neck pain, improved posture, and ease
of movement. People of all walks of life study the Alexander Technique, as it is a
general method of self-care and self-development that helps with many specific movement
issues.
Diane has been teaching the Technique and offering workshops to performers and special
interest groups for over 15 years. She has led one and two day Wellness workshops
using the Alexander Technique, mindfulness breathing practices, guided imagery and
movement. Diane is especially interested in bringing forward the uniqueness of each
person's self-expression and inner sense of healing the body, mind and spirit.
Diane is on the faculty of the American Center for the Alexander Technique in New
York, and has taught in the music department at SUNY Stony Brook. She has led
workshops at the Open Center, Omega, and various other venues. Diane has an
extensive modern dance background, having choreographed and performed in the New York area
from 1983-1999. Diane has created a Dance and Creativity workshop called Doorways to
the Self, and has used this as a unique approach to creativity and self-development.
Diane is committed to drawing out the best of one's individuality and creativity, whether
it is in the classical forms like teaching the Alexander Technique,Yoga and Pilates mat
classes, or in bringing the Alexander Technique and movement work into self-development
workshops and into the workplace.
